Description
The Geissele Maritime Bolt Catch is a direct replacement for the mil-spec bolt catch on any AR-15 or M16/M4 lower receiver built to standard dimensions. It addresses one of the more persistent ergonomic shortcomings of the platform: a factory bolt catch sized and positioned for a right-handed shooter working with a full firing grip. This part changes that calculus for both hands.
The catch features extended paddles on both the upper and lower lever surfaces, which means a left-handed shooter can lock the bolt open or strip it forward using the index finger of the support hand without breaking the firing grip. For right-handed shooters, the added surface area makes thumb-actuated bolt releases faster and more consistent, particularly under stress or when wearing gloves. Aggressive checkering across the levers provides tactile indexing when direct visual confirmation isn’t available.
The part is machined from heat-treated 8620 steel and finished with a manganese phosphate coating, which provides corrosion resistance and a non-reflective surface. One installation note worth knowing before you start: the extended lower paddle partially covers the hammer pin hole on the lower receiver. A punch is needed to drive the hammer pin out from the left side, and the pin must be reinstalled from the right. The bolt catch spring and plunger are not included. Compatibility with billet AR-15 lower receivers has not been confirmed by the manufacturer — fit should be verified before installation on non-mil-spec receivers.
