Description

Hornady’s Superformance Varmint line was built for hunters and shooters who want to push their existing varmint cartridges harder without handloading. The .204 Ruger loading with a 32-grain V-MAX bullet is a natural fit for that goal: the cartridge already runs fast by design, and Superformance propellant technology extracts an additional 100 to 200 feet per second of muzzle velocity compared to conventional loads in the same chambering. That velocity gain matters in the field because it flattens trajectory and reduces the time a bullet spends in the wind, which directly shrinks the correction a shooter needs to make on a moving or distant target.

The V-MAX bullet itself is a polymer-tipped design where the tip serves a mechanical purpose: on impact it drives rearward into the lead core, initiating rapid and consistent fragmentation. For varmint work that terminal behavior is the objective, and the lighter 32-grain weight at high velocity produces the explosive results this style of hunting calls for. The polymer tip also improves the bullet’s ballistic coefficient relative to a soft-point of similar weight, contributing to the flatter arc and reduced wind sensitivity the load is optimized for.

Superformance Varmint ammunition is loaded to function reliably across all action types, including semi-automatics, so gas-operated rifles with tighter pressure windows do not require special consideration. This box contains 20 rounds of centerfire rifle ammunition.
