The 6.5 Grendel cartridge is well suited to medium game hunting at moderate to extended ranges, and the 90-grain CX bullet is a sensible choice for hunters who want reliable terminal performance across a range of impact velocities. CX — Copper eXpanding — is a monolithic copper alloy bullet with a polymer tip. Because there is no lead core to separate from the jacket, the bullet holds together under the stress of impact and drives deep before the petals fold back and expand. That controlled expansion works at the low end of the velocity range as well as the high end, which matters when shots vary in distance.

The polymer tip serves two purposes: it initiates expansion on contact and it improves the bullet’s ballistic coefficient compared to a flat- or open-nose profile of the same weight, so the bullet sheds velocity more slowly downrange. Muzzle velocity comes in at 2,910 fps, and the energy figure at the muzzle reflects a light-recoiling cartridge that remains effective well past where most hunters are shooting whitetail or similar game.
