Description

Hornady’s BLACK line was built around the idea that duty and defensive ammunition should cycle reliably across a wide range of platforms without requiring the shooter to tune the load to the gun. This 300 AAC Blackout loading takes that philosophy into supersonic territory with a 110-grain NTX projectile — a lead-free polymer-tipped design that initiates expansion reliably at the velocities this cartridge generates from shorter barrels. That matters in 300 Blackout more than most calibers, because barrel length varies widely among the platforms chambered for it, and a bullet that performs only within a narrow velocity window becomes unpredictable as muzzle velocity shifts.

The NTX construction is the defining feature here. Unlike a conventional lead-core projectile, the NTX uses a monolithic polymer-tipped design that eliminates the concern of core-jacket separation on impact while also keeping the round compliant with ranges and jurisdictions that restrict lead. The polymer tip initiates the expansion sequence consistently, driving the bullet’s structure to open at the velocities this 110-grain load produces in a short-barreled host.

At 110 grains, this is a supersonic load — it is not optimized for suppressed use at subsonic velocities, but it runs cleanly through gas-operated platforms and delivers enough retained energy downrange for hunting thin-skinned game or defensive application.
