Description

The 6mm ARC was developed in response to a U.S. Department of Defense requirement for a multipurpose cartridge that could extract meaningful long-range performance from the AR-15 platform without the weight penalty of larger calibers. That origin matters: the cartridge was stress-tested against the demands of professional end users before it ever reached the commercial market, and Hornady’s BLACK load is the factory ammunition that grew directly out of that program.

The 105-grain bullet at the center of this load earns its place through a high ballistic coefficient — the G1 BC of .530 means it sheds velocity slowly, which keeps trajectories flatter and reduces wind drift at distance compared to lighter, lower-BC projectiles in smaller calibers. Out of a 24-inch barrel, muzzle velocity reaches 2,750 fps and muzzle energy sits at 1,763 ft-lbs, giving the load genuine reach for precision target work and hunting without demanding a large-format rifle to get there.

The boat tail hollow point construction serves two purposes: the tapered heel seats the bullet consistently for flight stability, while the hollow point profile supports reliable expansion under hunting conditions. Hornady loads BLACK ammunition to cycle reliably across a wide range of AR-15 gas systems and barrel lengths — direct impingement or piston, suppressed or unsuppressed — so it functions as a practical general-purpose round rather than a load optimized only for one specific configuration. Brass cases and Boxer primers make the spent brass worth keeping if you reload. This is a 20-round box.
