Hornady’s LeverEvolution line was built around a specific problem: traditional lever-action cartridges like the .45-70 Government had to be loaded with flat-nosed or round-nosed bullets to sit safely in a tubular magazine, and that shape is aerodynamically inefficient. The MonoFlex bullet solves this by fitting a flexible polymer tip into the nose. That tip compresses safely under the spring pressure of the magazine stack but springs back to initiate reliable expansion on impact, even when terminal velocities have dropped at longer ranges.

The bullet itself is made from a copper alloy rather than pure copper or a traditional lead-core jacketed design. This matters because copper alloy is harder and more dimensionally consistent than pure copper, which tends to foul bores aggressively and can spike pressure. The MonoFlex resists both problems while still behaving as a monolithic projectile — meaning the bullet stays in one piece through the target and retains the overwhelming majority of its original weight. That weight retention is what produces deep, consistent penetration on large or heavy-boned game, where fragmentation would cost you energy at depth.

The 250-grain projectile at this velocity generates substantial muzzle energy, making it a practical choice for deer, hog, or black bear hunting in terrain where lever-action rifles make sense — dense woods, saddle scabbards, or guides who need a fast-handling rifle.
