Description

Hornady’s LEVERevolution load exists to solve a problem that has constrained lever-action hunting ammunition for well over a century. Traditional spitzer bullets cannot be loaded in a tubular magazine without the pointed tip of one round resting against the primer of the round ahead of it — a genuine ignition hazard under recoil. Flat-point and round-nose bullets sidestep that risk but pay a steep ballistic penalty: they shed velocity and energy quickly and arc sharply at ranges beyond a hundred yards. Hornady’s FTX bullet threads that needle with a flexible elastomer tip that compresses safely against the primer in the magazine but, on impact, drives inward to initiate expansion the way a pointed bullet would in a conventional design.

The practical result for the shooter is a .45-70 Government load that carries a meaningfully higher ballistic coefficient than flat-point alternatives, producing a flatter arc and retaining more downrange energy for follow-up shots at distances where a traditional load would be running out of steam. Hornady puts the muzzle energy figure at roughly 3,032 foot-pounds, which reflects what a 325-grain bullet can deliver when it leaves the muzzle at 2,050 feet per second. That combination makes this a credible choice for deer, elk, or boar, where bullet weight and terminal diameter matter at woods-hunting distances. The brass-cased, Boxer-primed construction means spent cases can be reloaded. At 20 rounds per box, it is packaged for range evaluation or a serious hunting outing without committing to a full case.
