Hornady Match in .22 ARC is purpose-built for precision rifle competition and long-range target work where shot-to-shot consistency determines results. The 88-grain ELD-M bullet is the right choice when a shooter needs a high-BC projectile that holds its velocity and resists wind deflection at extended distances — qualities the .22 ARC cartridge is designed to exploit from a short-action AR platform.
The ELD-M bullet uses Hornady’s Heat Shield tip, which holds its shape under aerodynamic heating in flight. Conventional polymer tips can deform at the high velocities typical of match shooting, degrading the ballistic coefficient mid-trajectory. The Heat Shield material resists that deformation, so the bullet’s BC at the muzzle is the BC it carries downrange.
Hornady loads these rounds over powder charges matched specifically to this bullet and case combination, tuned for consistent pressure and velocity across the box rather than peak numbers. The brass cases are selected for uniform wall thickness and internal volume, because variation in either translates directly into velocity spread — and velocity spread is what opens vertical on a target. Stringent seating depth and charge control are what Hornady calls out as the mechanism behind lot-to-lot consistency, which matters when a shooter needs to trust a zero confirmed at one range session to hold at the next.
