Hornady’s Precision Hunter line exists for one purpose: delivering match-grade accuracy and reliable terminal performance on big game at the ranges where most hunting shots actually happen. The 25-06 Remington chambering is a natural fit for that mission — it pushes light-for-caliber bullets at high velocity, producing a flat trajectory that reduces the need to correct for holdover at medium to long distances, and its modest recoil makes follow-up shots straightforward without sacrificing downrange energy.
The round is built around Hornady’s 110-grain ELD-X bullet, which stands for Extremely Low-Drag eXpanding. The boat-tail profile and high ballistic coefficient work together to resist wind deflection and shed velocity more slowly than conventional hunting projectiles, which matters most when shots stretch past 300 yards. The Heat Shield tip is the detail that separates the ELD-X from earlier polymer-tip designs: conventional tips deform from aerodynamic heating in flight, which disrupts the bullet’s ballistic coefficient partway to the target. The Heat Shield resists that deformation, so the bullet’s calculated trajectory stays accurate from muzzle to impact.
Terminal behavior is calibrated by distance. At close range, where impact velocity is high, the bullet expands progressively throughout the wound channel with meaningful weight retention. At long range, where velocity has dropped, the tip drives rearward on impact to initiate controlled mushroom expansion — a design that compensates for the reduced hydraulic force available at lower velocities. Each round is loaded in brass casings with clean-burning powder and Hornady’s own primers, keeping charge-to-charge consistency tight. Boxes contain 20 rounds.
