The bullet at the core of this load is the ELD-X, which stands for Extremely Low Drag — eXpanding. The tip is made from Hornady’s Heat Shield polymer, which resists aerodynamic deformation during flight — a real concern at the velocities the .257 Weatherby Magnum generates. Conventional polymer tips can soften and deform in the air stream, shifting the ballistic coefficient as the bullet travels downrange. Terminal performance is handled by a dual-construction core. The front section of the bullet is designed to expand reliably at a wide range of impact velocities, which matters when a fast cartridge like this one may connect at varying distances. The rear section is InterLock-bonded to hold together and deliver deep penetration after expansion, so the bullet doesn’t shed mass before it reaches vitals. Brass cases are boxer-primed and reloadable, which makes this load a reasonable starting point for anyone who eventually wants to work up handloads using the same bullet.
