Description

Hornady’s Superformance line was built around a specific problem: hunters and long-range shooters who wanted more velocity without handloading or accepting the punishment of a magnum cartridge. This 6.5mm Creedmoor load with the 129-grain SST delivers velocities 100 to 200 fps above what standard propellant recipes produce in this chambering, and it does so through specialized powders run at normal charge weights rather than by pushing pressure ceilings. The practical result is a flatter trajectory and more retained energy at distance with no meaningful change in felt recoil or muzzle blast relative to a conventional load.

The bullet itself is the Super Shock Tip design — a polymer-tipped hollow point with a boat-tail base. The polymer tip serves two functions: it protects the cavity during feeding and magazine storage, and it initiates expansion reliably on impact even at the reduced velocities common at longer ranges. The boat-tail reduces drag through the flight, which matters in 6.5mm Creedmoor because the cartridge earns most of its reputation at the distances where aerodynamic efficiency separates good loads from great ones. Upon impact, the SST is designed to expand quickly and consistently, producing a wide wound channel rather than fragmenting unpredictably. Ballistic coefficient is .485, and sectional density runs .264 — both figures that support deep penetration through shoulder bone on medium and large deer-sized game.

Casing is reloadable brass with Boxer priming, so handloaders can recover the brass after the first firing. The load is safe to run in all 6.5 Creedmoor platforms, including semi-automatics. Each box contains 20 rounds.
