KAK Industry’s Retro Extended Flash Hider draws its profile from the XM-177 moderator, giving a short-barreled build a period-correct look while serving a practical function on modern AR-15 platforms. The design is built for shooters running a 10.5-inch barrel who want to bring the rifle’s overall length up to 16 inches by pinning and welding the device permanently in place — a 0.125-inch hole comes pre-drilled from the factory to make that process straightforward.

Construction starts with bar steel that is CNC machined and then heat treated, which preserves dimensional stability under the thermal stress of sustained fire. A manganese phosphate finish — the same protective treatment used on military small arms — resists corrosion without adding significant surface friction during installation. The five-port arrangement mirrors the A2 flash hider’s closed-bottom geometry: gas and combustion byproducts vent upward and to the sides, reducing muzzle rise without kicking up dust or debris directly beneath the muzzle. That closed bottom also makes the device more practical in prone positions.

At 1.0 inch in diameter and 6.15 inches overall, the flash hider adds approximately 5.56 inches to the barrel’s measured length when pinned and welded. The bore is sized to work on both 5.56mm and 9mm barrels, which makes it a usable option across different upper configurations if you run multiple calibers on the same lower. Installation requires a standard 0.750-inch wrench — no proprietary tooling needed. The 1/2-28 thread pitch is the standard pattern for .223/5.56 barrels, so fitment on a correctly threaded muzzle is direct with no adapter required.
