Description
The LWRC IC-MKII in Flat Dark Earth is built for shooters who want a short-barreled, duty-capable rifle with genuine ambidextrous function throughout. It suits left- and right-handed operators equally because every primary control — bolt catch, bolt release, magazine release, safety selector, and charging handle — is operable from either side without modification or adapter plates.
The operating system is LWRC’s short-stroke gas piston design. Where a direct-impingement rifle vents combustion gas directly into the bolt carrier, a short-stroke piston uses a separate rod to cycle the action, keeping hot gas and carbon out of the receiver. At shorter barrel lengths, where dwell time and port pressure can make direct-impingement systems run dirtier and hotter, a piston arrangement tends to run cooler and requires less frequent cleaning of the bolt carrier group. The nickel boron coating on the bolt carrier further resists fouling adhesion and reduces the friction the carrier sees during cycling.
The barrel is cold hammer forged with a spiral flute pattern. Cold hammer forging compresses the steel as it forms the rifling, which work-hardens the bore. The spiral fluting reduces weight without shortening the barrel and increases surface area to help shed heat during sustained fire. A 1-in-7-inch twist rate stabilizes heavier projectiles — bullets in the 62- to 77-grain range — reliably, while still handling standard 55-grain loads without issue.
The upper receiver is machined as a single Monoforge piece, eliminating the joint between the upper receiver and the barrel extension interface that exists on traditionally assembled uppers. The rifle ships with LWRC Skirmish back-up iron sights and one 30-round Magpul PMAG.
