The HD/+P designation matters for ammunition selection. Heavier .45 ACP defensive loads and +P cartridges drive the slide faster than standard pressure rounds, and a spring calibrated only for standard loads can allow premature lockback or inconsistent feeding under that added slide velocity. The MAX spring is wound roughly 25% stronger than a standard 1911 magazine spring specifically to stay ahead of that extra energy.
