Description
Foam-lined rifle cases have a well-known problem: the foam degrades, absorbs moisture and solvent, and locks you into a single layout. The Magpul DAKA GRID Organizer for the Pelican 1700 Protector replaces that foam entirely with a precision-fit EPP modular system designed to drop straight into the 1700 and Eylar 38″ interiors without modification to the case or the organizer.
EPP — expanded polypropylene — is a closed-cell material, which means it does not absorb the oils, solvents, and moisture that build up around firearms during range use and field transport. That keeps contact surfaces clean in a way open-cell foam cannot over time. The compression-based retention approach works differently from foam crush as well: blocks brace gear from both sides through direct contact pressure rather than relying on material that slowly loses its memory under load, so the hold stays consistent across repeated transport cycles.
The system includes six triple blocks and six double blocks along with replacement base foam, and the layout reconfigures without tools to accommodate different rifles, optics, or other sensitive equipment. The center panel can be opened to a cavity of up to approximately 4.25 inches to accept scoped rifles or larger optics packages. Because the base panel spans approximately 37.93 inches across the case interior with a precise fit, there is no shifting or edge gap that an undersized insert would introduce. Beyond firearms, the same modular interior works for cameras and electronics that require protected transport — making the organizer useful any time the 1700 platform travels.
