Description
The Magpul Hunter American Stock is a drop-in replacement chassis for the Ruger American short action rifle, aimed at hunters and field shooters who want a more capable platform without sending the barreled action out for custom work. Installation requires no bedding compound — the receiver drops into a reinforced polymer chassis and locks to an anodized aluminum bedding block via steel recoil lugs, giving the action a repeatable, solid seating that helps maintain zero through field conditions and temperature swings.
Because the barrel is fully free-floated, it has no contact with the stock forward of the receiver, which means barrel harmonics are consistent shot to shot rather than variable depending on how the action is torqued into the stock. The length of pull adjusts between 13 and 15 inches to fit different shooters or allow for heavier clothing in cold-weather hunts, and comb height is also adjustable so the shooter can get a consistent cheek weld behind a variety of optic mounting heights.
The forend carries M-LOK attachment points on the sides and bottom, so a bipod or other accessories can be mounted directly without adapters. Quick-detach sling swivel sockets are built in alongside dimpled drill points for those who prefer traditional swivel studs. A bolt-action magazine well is integrated into the chassis, paired with an ambidextrous paddle-style magazine release. The OD Green finish is Magpul’s own color, consistent with the rest of the Hunter series palette, and the polymer construction keeps weight down without relying on thin walls — the chassis design puts material where the load paths are.
