Description
The Magpul X-22 Backpacker Forend is built specifically for the Ruger 10/22 Takedown platform, and its purpose is straightforward: give shooters a more capable, packable rifle without adding bulk or complexity. It is meant to pair with the Magpul X-22 Backpacker Stock (MAG808), and that pairing is the point — the forend and stock together create a complete, purpose-built chassis that makes the 10/22 Takedown genuinely useful in the field rather than just technically portable.
The forend is constructed from advanced polymer, which keeps weight low and eliminates any concern about corrosion in wet or varied conditions. Where this design earns its keep is in the locking interface: rather than relying on the factory barrel band arrangement, the forend incorporates its own barrel retention system that holds the barrel assembly securely in place during both transport and use. That matters on a takedown rifle because loose barrel fit translates directly to inconsistent point of impact — a secure interface keeps the barrel indexed the same way every time you reassemble. The forend accepts factory and aftermarket barrels up to 0.920 inches in outer diameter, so it works with the standard 10/22 Takedown barrel and leaves room for common aftermarket options without requiring a custom fit. Installation is a drop-in process with no permanent modification to the rifle.
The profile is deliberately minimalist — this is not a rail-heavy chassis but a clean, low-snag forend suited to a rifle that spends time in a pack. If you already run the X-22 Backpacker Stock and want the forend that completes the system, this is the direct answer.
