Description

The MDT Backcountry is a hunting bipod built around a single priority: carrying as little weight as possible without giving up a stable shooting platform. It draws its lineage from the MDT Mountain Bipod—a design that originated in New Zealand’s demanding backcountry hunting terrain—but strips away leg splay and some of the Mountain’s adjustability to shave weight and cost. The trade-off is deliberate and honest: if you need maximum versatility in a field-adjustable bipod, the Mountain is the right tool; if you’re counting grams and the shot you’re setting up is worth the simplified controls, the Backcountry earns its place in the pack.

The legs deploy via push-button release, which matters when your hands are cold or gloved at altitude. Height adjustment uses a twist-lock mechanism on each leg—straightforward to operate and secure once set. The height range covers a wide spread of field positions, from low prone to sitting over broken terrain, giving the shooter meaningful flexibility without mechanical complexity. Cant is handled by the head, with 80 degrees of range so the rifle can be leveled on uneven ground, and the pan allows a full 360 degrees of rotation for tracking or repositioning without breaking from position.

Construction combines carbon fiber leg tubes with aluminum and titanium hardware. Carbon fiber resists the flex that undermines shot consistency under recoil, while titanium hardware keeps fastener weight minimal without sacrificing strength. The Picatinny mount interfaces directly with any standard rail, requiring no adapter. At five ounces total, this is a bipod that disappears in the pack and earns its place on the rifle when the shot presents itself.
