Description

The Mossberg 590 Shockwave SPX is built for close-quarters defensive work where a compact, shoulder-stockless shotgun makes sense. It carries the same core pump-action architecture that underpins Mossberg’s military and law enforcement guns: dual extractors share the extraction load so no single component bears it alone, twin action bars eliminate the racking torque that causes single-bar designs to bind under stress, and a steel-to-steel lockup between the bolt and barrel extension avoids the slop that builds up in designs using softer materials at that junction. The anti-jam elevator guides shells smoothly onto the carrier even when cycling is rushed.

The SPX variant adds hardware the base Shockwave omits. A receiver-mounted side saddle accepts the included polymer shell holders on either side, keeping spare rounds indexed at the receiver rather than in a pocket or bag. A removable top rail gives you a mounting surface for a red dot or other accessory without permanent modification. The barrel wears a heat shield, which keeps a forward-gripping hand from direct contact with a tube that heats quickly under sustained fire. The stand-off barrel end lets the muzzle be pressed against a surface without pushing the action out of battery. The Raptor bird’s-head pistol grip is contoured specifically to roll recoil rearward rather than let it torque the wrist upward, which matters more here than on a stocked gun because there is no shoulder pad absorbing the initial impulse. The corn-cob forend includes a strap that positions the support hand well back from the muzzle. The ambidextrous top-tang safety is operable without shifting grip for either hand. A front bead sight is standard.
