Description
The Patriot Carbine is Mossberg’s answer to a practical, do-everything bolt gun that travels well and shoots a serious cartridge. Its shortened profile makes it easier to maneuver in tight quarters—a blind, a truck cab, dense timber—without the handling penalty that comes with a full-length hunting rifle. The tradeoff is a modest increase in muzzle blast and a slightly louder report compared to longer-barreled counterparts, both of which are manageable with appropriate hearing protection and a muzzle device.
The barrel is threaded from the factory, which means it accepts suppressors and other muzzle accessories without additional gunsmithing work. A 1-in-10 twist rate in .308 / 7.62 NATO stabilizes the wide range of projectile weights this cartridge is commonly loaded with, from 147-grain ball to the heavier 175- and 185-grain bullets favored for longer-range work. Shooters who run a variety of hunting and precision loads through the same rifle will find that twist rate accommodating across the spectrum.
The top-mounted Picatinny rail provides a consistent, repeatable platform for mounting optics—no proprietary bases, no guesswork about ring compatibility. The user-adjustable LBA trigger lets the shooter set a pull weight that suits their preference rather than adapting to whatever the factory chose, which matters more on a hunting rifle than people give it credit for. The spiral fluted bolt and oversized bolt handle make cycling faster and more positive under cold-weather gloves or when speed matters. The Multicam Brown Cerakote finish on both metal and stock gives the rifle reasonable corrosion resistance without the maintenance demands of a blued surface.
