The Patriot LR Tactical is Mossberg’s purpose-built long-range bolt gun, suited to handloaders and precision shooters who want a chassis-stocked rifle ready to run out of the box without the cost of a full custom build. The MDT Oryx Tactical chassis handles that role: it wraps the barreled action in an aluminum-and-polymer structure that accepts standard AR-style pistol grips and provides a more consistent cheekweld interface than a conventional injection-molded stock, which matters when you are trying to repeat your position shot to shot.

6.5 Creedmoor performs well at distance because of its relatively high ballistic coefficient projectiles, and the 1-in-8 twist rate here is fast enough to stabilize the heavier match bullets—140-grain and up—that extract the most from the cartridge at longer ranges. Shooters building a load around lighter bullets in the 120-grain range will still find adequate stability; this twist simply gives more headroom on the heavy end. The barrel is threaded, so a suppressor or muzzle brake can be mounted without additional gunsmithing.

The LBA (Lightning Bolt Action) trigger is adjustable, which lets the shooter dial pull weight to suit their preference rather than accepting a fixed factory setting. The spiral-fluted bolt reduces rotating mass slightly and gives the action a cleaner feel under fouling. A factory-installed Picatinny rail eliminates the need to source a separate base, and the rifle ships with a 10-round AICS-pattern magazine—a format with broad aftermarket support if additional magazines are needed. No iron sights are included, so budget for an optic from the outset.
