Description
The Patriot Super Bantam is Mossberg’s answer to a practical question: what do you hand to a hunter who is still growing, or to a smaller-framed adult who wants a full-power rifle that actually fits? The stock is built around an adjustable length of pull using a removable spacer, so the same rifle that fits a twelve-year-old in the deer stand can be lengthened as the shooter grows, rather than replaced. That makes this a genuinely long-term purchase rather than a transitional one.
The cartridge is .308 Winchester, which is interchangeable with 7.62 NATO brass, and at 1:10 inches the twist rate stabilizes the full range of standard .308 projectiles—from lighter 150-grain hunting loads up through 175-grain match bullets—without pushing into the very-heavy-for-caliber territory where you would want a faster twist. That keeps ammunition selection broad and practical for a hunting rifle. The 20-inch barrel gives up a modest amount of velocity compared to a 24-inch tube but brings the overall package down to a length that handles well in tighter cover and is easier to mount from a blind or a stand.
Mossberg’s LBA trigger is user-adjustable across a meaningful pull-weight range, which matters when the rifle is being shared between a new shooter learning trigger discipline and an experienced one who prefers a lighter break. The spiral-fluted bolt reduces drag on the camming surfaces and sheds debris, while the recessed crown protects the muzzle in field conditions. A 3-9x40mm scope is included, mounted on Weaver-style bases, so the rifle is ready to zero without a separate optic purchase. The crossbolt safety is positioned for access without shifting the shooting hand.
