The Mossberg Patriot Carbine is built for hunters and shooters who want a full-power bolt-action rifle in a shorter, more manageable package — particularly useful in tight terrain, from tree stands, or when carrying distance matters as much as terminal performance. It is not a range toy; the .308 / 7.62 NATO chambering is a serious hunting and barrier-blind cartridge, and this platform is configured to use it effectively at realistic field distances.

The barrel carries a 1-in-10 inch twist rate, which stabilizes the broad middle range of .308 projectile weights well — from 150-grain hunting loads up through 175-grain match bullets — giving the shooter meaningful flexibility in ammunition selection without chasing an edge-case twist optimized for a single bullet weight. The barrel is medium bull profile with a matte blued finish, threaded at 5/8″-24 TPI, which accommodates a wide range of muzzle devices including suppressors and brakes. A recessed crown protects the rifling at the muzzle from contact damage during field use.

The bolt itself is spiral fluted, which reduces surface contact between bolt body and receiver during cycling and sheds debris more readily than a smooth bolt — a practical consideration in wet or dirty field conditions. The oversized bolt handle gives a positive grip even with gloves on. Mossberg’s LBA trigger is user-adjustable across a 2-to-7 pound pull range without gunsmithing, letting the shooter dial in a break suited to their preferred shooting style. A top-mounted Picatinny rail comes standard, so optic mounting is straightforward without additional machining or adapter bases. The stock is black synthetic with a fixed length of pull.
