Description

The 3M Peltor Sport Tactical 500 is built for shooters who need to hear what is happening around them without sacrificing ear protection. That means range officers, hunters working in groups, and anyone running drills where verbal communication matters as much as the shooting itself. Passive earmuffs solve one problem; this solves two at once.

The core of the design is a pair of recessed external microphones that pick up ambient sound and route it into the cups at a safe level, then cut off almost instantly when a gunshot crosses the threshold. The recessed mounting keeps the mic elements out of harm’s way and partially sheltered from wind, which reduces the low-frequency rumble that makes open-air microphones noisy in a breeze. Dynamic Suppression Time goes a step further: rather than applying a fixed mute duration after each shot, the circuitry reads the acoustic energy of the report and adjusts how long suppression holds. Indoors, where reverb extends the noise envelope well past the muzzle blast itself, that adaptive timing reduces the hollow ringing that fixed-suppression designs leave behind.

Clear Voice Tracking works alongside that system by targeting the frequency range of human speech and preserving it while attenuating broadband background noise. In a busy indoor range, that distinction matters — the ambient din drops while a conversation or a command stays intelligible. Bluetooth connectivity lets you pair a phone and take calls without pulling the cups off, which keeps protection in place during breaks between strings of fire.

The cups fold flat for storage and the headband adjusts to fit a range of head sizes. Battery life runs on two AA cells, and the headset can alternatively accept the Alpha 1100 lithium-ion rechargeable battery sold separately. A storage bag is included.
