Description
The Proof Research Elevation 2.0 is built for hunters and precision shooters who need a compact, capable bolt-action that can carry into the field without sacrificing terminal performance at distance. It is not a range toy dressed up for hunting season — it is a purpose-designed system where every material choice reflects a specific trade-off between weight, durability, and accuracy.
Proof Research’s carbon fiber-wrapped barrels are the centerpiece of that philosophy. The carbon fiber jacket draws heat away from the steel core faster than a contoured steel barrel of comparable weight, which matters on a hunt where a second shot opportunity may come sooner than expected. The wrapping also reduces overall mass substantially, shifting the balance point rearward and making the rifle easier to carry all day in steep terrain.
The 1:10″ twist rate is well-matched to the .308 / 7.62 NATO cartridge across a broad range of bullet weights, stabilizing projectiles from standard 168-grain match loads down through lighter hunting bullets without overdriving lighter projectiles the way a faster twist would. Shooters who intend to run heavier long-range projectiles above 175 grains should confirm stability with their chosen load before committing to a barrel.
At 16.5 inches, the barrel gives up only a modest velocity margin compared to a full 20- or 22-inch tube, and the shorter sight radius and overall length make the rifle significantly more manageable in a blind, a saddle scabbard, or dense timber. The four-round magazine capacity reflects the Elevation 2.0’s hunting application rather than a range or tactical role. The TFDE finish is Proof Research’s own designation — a flat dark earth Cerakote applied to both the metal and the stock, chosen for field durability and reduced reflectivity in low light.
