The Proof Research Elevation MTR is built for hunters and precision shooters who need a rifle that can be carried hard and shot accurately at distance without compromise between the two. Proof Research centers the Elevation MTR around a carbon fiber-wrapped barrel, a construction method that sheds significant weight compared to a steel tube of equivalent contour while also dissipating heat more efficiently across the barrel’s surface. That matters on a hunting rifle because you rarely have time to wait out a hot barrel, and it matters on a precision platform because heat buildup is one of the more consistent drivers of point-of-impact shift during a string of fire.

The .300 PRC is a modern long-action cartridge designed around the heaviest, highest-BC .30-caliber projectiles currently in common use. The 1:9″ twist rate is fast enough to stabilize those long, low-drag bullets reliably, which means the rifle is set up to take full advantage of the cartridge rather than being limited to mid-weight projectiles. Handloaders and ammunition selectors should build their load around bullets in the 212–250 grain range to get the most from that combination.

At 20 inches, the barrel gives up some velocity compared to a 24-inch tube but keeps the overall package shorter and more manageable in the field without dramatically affecting what the .300 PRC can do at hunting distances. The Midnight finish on the stock is Proof Research’s own designation for this build’s configuration, keeping the rifle visually low-profile in the field.
