Description

The Proof Research Elevation MTR 2.0 is built for hunters and precision shooters who need a rifle that performs at distance without punishing them on the carry in. It is a purpose-built backcountry bolt gun, sized and weighted for mountain terrain and long days afield rather than for the bench or the range bag.

The 7mm Backcountry cartridge sits at the center of this build’s identity. It was developed to push long, high-BC projectiles at velocities that make wind correction and holdover more manageable at extended ranges, while staying within a chassis and barrel package light enough to carry all day. The 20-inch barrel keeps overall length reasonable without surrendering the velocity that makes the cartridge effective at distance — a shorter tube than is typical for 7mm magnums, but one that still extracts most of the propellant’s work before the bullet exits.

The 1-in-8 twist rate is specifically matched to the heavier, longer-for-caliber bullets the 7mm Backcountry is designed around. Shooters loading lighter, shorter projectiles will find less benefit from that fast twist, but those running high-BC match or hunting bullets in the 160- to 180-grain range will see the stability they need for consistent terminal performance and predictable ballistics past 500 yards.

Proof Research wraps the barrel in carbon fiber, which pulls weight from the heaviest single component on the rifle while maintaining the stiffness needed for shot-to-shot consistency. The TFDE carbon fiber stock continues that philosophy — the finish is Proof Research’s Tan/Flat Dark Earth, and the stock material keeps the entire package manageable without sacrificing rigidity under a supported firing position. The threaded muzzle leaves the door open for the shooter to tailor the brake or device to their preference.
