Proof Research wraps a chrome-moly steel bore in a carbon fiber composite sleeve, a construction method that pulls heat away from the bore faster than a steel tube of equivalent wall thickness and reduces the finished weight considerably — meaningful on a rifle carried at elevation or over long glassing sessions where every ounce compounds.

The Sendero contour is a medium-heavy profile that balances rigidity against weight. It is stiffer than a sporter taper, which suppresses the barrel harmonics that open groups as a barrel heats through a string of shots, while stopping short of the mass of a full benchrest tube. That stiffness matters in 6.5 PRC, which runs at relatively high chamber pressure and benefits from a barrel that doesn’t walk between shots.

The 1-7.5 twist rate is fast enough to stabilize the long, high-BC projectiles — bullets in the 140–156 grain range — that make 6.5 PRC worth chambering in the first place. Slower twists can destabilize those heavy-for-caliber bullets at the velocities needed for extended range work; this rate keeps them flying consistently.
