The Tundra is Proof Research’s answer to a specific problem: building a bolt-action rifle light enough to carry through serious mountain terrain without sacrificing the precision a long-range hunting shot demands. It is aimed at backcountry hunters and technical shooters who have accepted that weight and accuracy usually trade against each other, and would rather not.

The 7mm Backcountry cartridge is a relatively new offering designed to push high-BC, heavy-for-caliber projectiles at velocities that make long-range wind drift manageable in open country. The 1-in-8 twist rate is fast enough to stabilize the long, heavy 7mm bullets that extract the most from the cartridge — if you plan to work with lighter, shorter projectiles, that same twist rate will still stabilize them without issue, so ammunition selection is broadly permissive rather than narrow.

At 20 inches, the barrel gives up some muzzle velocity compared to a 24-inch tube, but keeps the rifle handleable in tight glassing positions, in a saddle scabbard, or through dense timber — contexts where a full-length barrel becomes a liability before the shot ever presents itself. The carbon-fiber-wrapped match-grade barrel is the core of how Proof Research addresses that trade-off: wrapping a thin steel liner in carbon fiber recovers rigidity and heat-shedding without the weight penalty of a heavy-contour steel barrel.

The Defiance Ruckus action underpins the build, and the Black Jungle Tundra carbon fiber stock keeps the overall package in a weight class appropriate for extended carries. A 5/8×24 threaded muzzle gives the option of running a suppressor.
