Description

The PWS MK116 MOD 1-M upper is built for shooters who want to run 7.62x39mm through a direct-impingement-style AR platform without the reliability headaches that cartridge can introduce in a standard bolt-carrier-group setup. Primary Weapons Systems addresses that at the source by using their long-stroke piston operating system, which moves the gas-driven components further from the chamber and keeps carbon fouling away from the bolt carrier. The practical result is a upper that tolerates a wider range of ammunition and cleaning intervals than a DI equivalent chambered for the same round.

The adjustable gas regulator gives the shooter three settings, which matters most when running a suppressor or moving between ammunition loads that produce meaningfully different pressures. Rather than tuning the system once and leaving it, the shooter can dial in the gas behavior to match the conditions. The mid-length gas system spreads the operating impulse over a longer dwell time compared to a carbine-length setup, softening the felt recoil pulse and reducing bolt carrier velocity at the expense of a slightly longer handguard geometry.

The 15-inch PWS M-LOK handguard runs close to the muzzle, giving a full-length rail for support-hand accessories without adding weight through a fixed rail section. The forged T6 7075 upper receiver and the Radian Raptor ambidextrous charging handle ship as part of the complete assembly. The Triad 30 muzzle device is PWS’s own design, a linear compensator that redirects gas and concussion forward rather than to the sides. The anodized black finish is consistent across the receiver and handguard.
