Rugged Suppressors built the OP009 for shooters who run tilting-barrel pistols and want a reliable way to mount an Obsidian 45 or Obsidian 9 suppressor without sacrificing the host’s operating geometry. Tilting-barrel designs present a specific challenge: the barrel cams up and down during the firing cycle, so the suppressor attachment point has to move with it rather than locking rigidly to the frame. A piston system solves this by letting the suppressor float on the piston while the barrel cycles normally beneath it.

The OP009 uses a non-slotted body, which means the gas seal runs continuously around the full circumference of the piston rather than venting through cuts in the side. Slotted pistons bleed gas deliberately to reduce back-pressure, but that comes at the cost of some gas escaping rearward toward the shooter. The unbroken seal on this piston keeps that gas moving forward through the suppressor instead, which produces a cleaner and less disruptive shooting experience over extended range sessions.

The piston is machined from 17-4 stainless steel and given a heat-treated finish. That alloy is well suited to the environment directly behind a suppressor, where heat cycles and combustion byproducts are a constant factor. The internal shoulder design is what defines compatibility here: it engages the specific mounting geometry of the Obsidian series rather than relying on a simple jam-nut arrangement, keeping the suppressor indexed consistently shot to shot. The 1/2″-28 thread pattern determines which host barrels this piston fits, so confirming your barrel’s thread pitch before ordering is essential.
