Description

Sellier & Bellot’s 168-grain Hollow Point Boat Tail load in .308 Winchester is built around target shooting and precision competition, where round-to-round consistency determines whether a group tightens or scatters. The hollow point boat tail profile is the meaningful choice here: the tapered heel reduces base drag, which helps the bullet hold velocity and resist wind deflection as distance increases, while the hollow point cavity contributes to a higher ballistic coefficient than a flat-based or full-metal-jacket bullet of equal weight would achieve. S&B publishes a G1 ballistic coefficient of 0.458 for this projectile, which is relevant when dialing corrections at range rather than trusting holdover alone.

The brass casing is Boxer-primed with a large rifle primer, which means spent cases can be resized and reloaded if you want to develop a refined handload around this bullet’s geometry. At the factory, S&B specifies a test barrel length of 23.5 inches, so velocity figures will read differently in shorter or longer tubes — worth accounting for when building a drop chart. The manufacturer recommends a rifling twist between 1:11 and 1:12 inches to stabilize this bullet properly; faster-twist barrels will still work, but slower ones may not give the 168-grain projectile enough spin to fly consistently at distance.

Each box contains 20 rounds. Cases of 500 rounds are packed as 25 boxes of 20, which suits a shooter who burns through enough ammunition to want a consistent lot number across range sessions or a multi-day match.
