Description

The Sig Sauer M17 is the commercial version of the pistol the U.S. Army selected through its Modular Handgun System competition, and it carries over the military specification closely rather than being a civilian-market interpretation of it. It is built for shooters who want a full-size duty pistol that mirrors what soldiers are actually issued, whether for carry, home defense, or range work.

The platform is derived from the P320, which uses a serialized fire control unit housed inside a removable chassis. That construction is what made the M17 attractive to the Army in the first place: the grip module, slide, and barrel can all be swapped without the serialized component changing, giving the platform genuine long-term adaptability. The grip module here is coyote-tan polymer, sized for full-size carry, and the stainless steel slide wears a Coyote PVD finish that resists corrosion and reduces reflectivity.

The manual safety on this model is a deliberate addition to the striker-fired design. A striker-fired trigger has no external hammer to provide a visual or tactile pre-fire indicator, so the manual safety adds a mechanical barrier that physically blocks the trigger from completing the firing sequence when engaged — a trade-off some duty and carry shooters prefer over relying on trigger discipline alone.

The optic-ready slide uses the M17/M18 MHS footprint, which is specifically compatible with the Romeo-M17 and Deltapoint Pro, rather than the more common RMR cut. The SIGLITE night sights provide a usable iron-sight baseline whether or not an optic is mounted. The carbon steel barrel sits at 4.7 inches, a length that keeps the sight radius practical without extending the overall package unnecessarily. Three 10-round steel magazines are included.
