Description
The Combat Commander exists for shooters who want a genuine 1911 platform they can carry every day without the full-length Government Model’s added bulk. Colt trimmed the frame and slide relative to the Government Model, and that reduction in overall length makes the pistol easier to conceal and more comfortable on the hip for extended carry, without asking the shooter to give up the single-action trigger feel that defines the 1911 pattern.
The single-action mechanism rewards deliberate technique: the trigger breaks from a pre-cocked hammer, so the pull weight is consistent and short rather than long and stacking. That predictability is an asset for accuracy under pressure, but it does mean the shooter depends on the manual safety and grip safety for safe carry — both of which are present here alongside the firing pin safety, so the standard 1911 carry discipline applies. The upswept beavertail lets you seat your hand higher on the grip, which places the bore axis closer to the hand and reduces muzzle flip between shots.
G10 grips are harder and more texture-aggressive than the wood or rubber panels common on older production 1911s, giving a more positive purchase in wet or sweaty conditions. The undercut trigger guard contributes to the same high-grip geometry as the beavertail, letting the middle finger ride tight under the guard rather than sitting below it. The dual spring recoil system manages the 9mm impulse and helps extend service life on the frame’s feed ramp area. Novak sights are a proven low-snag profile that hold their zero reliably and present a clean sight picture. The pistol ships with one nine-round magazine.
