The P238 is Sig Sauer’s answer to the pocket pistol category for shooters who won’t compromise on all-metal construction. It’s sized for deep concealment but built on an anodized alloy beavertail frame with a stainless steel slide, which keeps weight low while giving the gun a more solid feel in hand than polymer-framed alternatives of similar size.

The single-action trigger is the defining characteristic here. It requires the hammer to be cocked before the trigger can fire — carried hammer-down, the gun is inert; carried cocked and locked, it offers a short, consistent pull that rewards deliberate shooting. The manual safety makes that carry mode practical, and for shooters already familiar with 1911-pattern handling, the manual of arms will feel entirely natural.

SIGLITE night sights are built into this configuration. The tritium inserts provide a usable sight picture in low light without batteries or activation, which matters when a pocket pistol is most likely to be pressed into service. The sights are also adjustable for windage, so if your point of impact drifts left or right, you can correct it without sending the gun back.

The P238 ships with one six-round steel magazine. That capacity, combined with the 6+1 chambered round, keeps the grip compact enough to disappear in a front pocket or ankle rig. The .380 ACP chambering is a deliberate trade-off: it allows a locked-breech action in a frame this small, which smooths the felt impulse compared to blowback designs of the same caliber.
