Description
The SilencerCo AC28 piston is a replacement and adaptation component for shooters running an Osprey, Octane, Hybrid, or Omega 9K suppressor on a host pistol or submachine gun with an M16x1 left-hand threaded barrel. Swapping pistons is how you move one of these suppressors between hosts with different thread patterns without purchasing an entirely separate can — a practical consideration when a single suppressor is shared across multiple firearms in a collection.
The piston is the active half of the Nielsen device, the spring-loaded mechanism that handgun suppressors require to cycle semi-automatic actions reliably. Because a suppressor adds mass ahead of the muzzle, it disrupts the barrel’s normal rearward movement during recoil. The Nielsen device compensates by allowing the piston — and with it the suppressor — to shift rearward independently during the firing cycle, restoring enough unlocking force for the slide to travel fully rearward and chamber the next round. Without the correct piston thread pitch matched to the host barrel, that mechanism cannot engage properly, which is why thread-specific pistons matter for function, not just fitment.
SilencerCo machines this piston from 17-4 stainless steel and applies a heat treatment process to harden the material against the repeated mechanical stress of cycling. The black finish keeps the exterior consistent with the suppressors it serves. For any shooter adapting a compatible SilencerCo suppressor to a .45 ACP host threaded M16x1 left-hand, this is the correct replacement piece.
