Description

The SureFire EP4 Sonic Defender Plus is a reusable filtered earplug built for environments where you need hearing protection without going deaf to everything around you. That matters on a range where you still need to hear commands, in the field where situational awareness is part of the job, or anywhere you might need to communicate while noise is present.

The design centers on a passive acoustic filter that works without batteries or electronics. When sound levels stay below 85 dB, audio passes through into the ear canal with only modest attenuation, so normal speech and ambient cues remain intelligible. When an impulse or sustained noise pushes above that threshold, the filter restricts it. The 24 dB Noise Reduction Rating applies when the included filter caps are pressed in, sealing the stem opening entirely — useful on long flights or in sustained industrial noise where ambient awareness is not a priority.

Retention comes from SureFire’s EarLock rings, which use seven contact points around the concha bowl to hold the earpiece in a consistent position each time you seat it. The triple-flanged stem handles the seal inside the canal. Both work together to keep the plug stable under a helmet, behind a cheek weld, or alongside a radio earpiece — the low-profile build is specifically shaped to avoid bulk conflicts with headgear, masks, and supplemental ear muffs.

The polymer is medical-grade and hypoallergenic, chosen for extended wear sessions rather than occasional use.
