Description

The Wilson Combat Bullet Proof Beavertail Grip Safety is intended for 1911 builders and gunsmiths who want a drop-in-quality component machined to closer tolerances than cast or molded alternatives can reliably deliver. Starting from high-grade carbon steel bar stock rather than a casting eliminates the internal voids and inclusions that can compromise structural integrity in a part subjected to repeated firing loads — a meaningful distinction in a component that bears directly against the frame under recoil.

The high-ride geometry positions the shooting hand higher on the grip, which brings the bore axis closer to the natural line of the hand. This reduces the leverage recoil has to rotate the muzzle upward, allowing faster reacquisition of a sight picture between shots. The wide, rounded beavertail disperses that rearward impulse across a broader surface area rather than concentrating it at the web of the hand during extended range sessions.

Wilson Combat’s compound joint radius is shaped to simplify hand-fitting, though frame modification is still required — this is a full-fit part, not a drop-in. The modified grip safety arm is designed to allow disassembly without removing the part. A pocketed rear tang accommodates Commander and bobbed spur hammers in the cocked position, keeping the profile snag-free during the draw. The raised Posi-Release tab promotes a consistent hand position and makes it easier to disengage the grip safety deliberately under stress. Wilson Combat recommends using their #402 fitting jig for frame inletting and includes instructions with each unit. The blue finish is a black oxide treatment applied to the carbon steel. Not compatible with Series 80 Colt pistols.
