The NULA Model 20 is Wilson Combat’s version of Melvin Forbes’ ultralight bolt-action design, reworked with modern machining and materials. It is built for hunters who carry their rifle farther than they shoot it — backcountry, alpine, and spot-and-stalk situations where a heavy rifle becomes a liability before the first shot is fired. The complete package comes in under five and a quarter pounds unscoped, which is a meaningful difference on a long day in the mountains.

The receiver is machined from 4140 bar stock and finished in Armor-Tuff, while the bolt is machined from 4340 and coated in Nickel Boron — two materials chosen for toughness and corrosion resistance in field conditions. The barrel is button-rifled 416R stainless, honed and double stress-relieved, which reduces residual stress in the steel and contributes to the rifle’s sub-MOA accuracy guarantee with specified factory ammunition. The 1-in-11.25 twist rate in this configuration suits a broad range of conventional .308 bullet weights, favoring the lighter-to-mid-weight projectiles that most hunters and general-purpose shooters run rather than the heaviest long-range match bullets, which typically prefer a faster twist.

The Timney Elite Hunter trigger breaks between 2.75 and 3.25 pounds, and the safety locks the bolt closed when engaged — a meaningful field safety feature that prevents the bolt from being inadvertently opened during a stalk or a carry. The AG Composites carbon fiber stock wears a Pachmayr Decelerator recoil pad to manage the impulse that a rifle this light would otherwise transmit quite sharply. The barrel is threaded 5/8×24, and the Kodiak Rogue stock finish is suited for forested environments. No sights are included, so mounting an optic is a required first step.
