The Yankee Hill Machine Low Profile Gas Block with set screws is a straightforward solution for builders who want to run a free-floating handguard without retaining the factory front sight tower. By eliminating the tall A2-style block, you free up the barrel’s gas block journal to sit fully beneath a handguard, giving you a cleaner profile and an unobstructed surface for accessories along the rail.

Retention is handled by two set screws, which thread directly against the barrel to hold the block in place. This is a simpler installation compared to a clamp or pinch-screw design, though it does require careful torquing and is typically paired with thread-locking compound to stay put under sustained fire. The bore diameter is matched to the standard AR-15 barrel diameter, making it compatible with the vast majority of mil-spec M4, medium, and HBAR profiles at the gas block seat.

Yankee Hill machines this block from 4140 steel and finishes it in Black Oxide, giving it solid corrosion resistance without adding meaningful weight. At 1.6 ounces, it contributes almost nothing to the overall balance of the rifle. The 0.125-inch gas port aligns with the barrel’s existing port to maintain the gas system’s intended dwell time, so cycling behavior stays consistent with what the barrel’s designer intended.
