The ZF-56 14.5 Rifle is built for shooters who want the compactness of a shorter barrel without giving up the handling characteristics of a full rifle platform. Its roller-delayed blowback operating system is the defining mechanical choice here: where a direct-impingement or piston design bleeds gas back into the action almost immediately, the roller system slows the bolt’s rearward travel by mechanical leverage, which spreads the recoil impulse over a longer dwell period. The result is a softer, more linear push rather than a sharp snap — a meaningful advantage during sustained fire or when shooting from positions that leave you less stable.

The barrel is cold hammer-forged from 4150 CMV steel and coated with FNC, a ferritic nitrocarburizing finish that bonds into the surface rather than sitting on top of it, making it more resistant to wear and corrosion under hard use than a standard phosphate treatment. A 1:7-inch right-hand twist is well suited to heavier 5.56 projectiles in the 62–77 grain range, giving those bullets the rotational stability they need to perform at distance, while still stabilizing standard 55-grain loads reliably. The muzzle is threaded at ½×28 RH and fitted with a pinned and welded flash hider.

The free-floating M-LOK handguard eliminates barrel contact forward of the receiver, so pressure from a sling, a barricade, or a hand position does not shift the point of impact. A full-length Picatinny top rail runs the length of the upper, and the rifle ships with a 30-round AR-pattern magazine, a carrying case, and a buffer-tube-compatible end cap that opens up stock options familiar to AR shooters. Trigger pull is specified at 6–8 pounds with an ambidextrous manual safety lever. The last-round bolt hold-open keeps the bolt back after the final round, giving a clear visual and tactile indicator that the gun is empty.
