Description
The Colt Competition Government is built around one purpose: reducing the margin between the shooter and a clean run on the clock. It fits the competitive shooter who wants a factory 1911 with the internal specification work already done rather than a base gun that still needs a gunsmith before it’s match-ready.
The Series 70 firing system removes the firing pin block found in later Colt designs, which shortens and cleans up the trigger’s reset by eliminating the passive internal linkage from the pull weight equation. The result is a trigger that breaks with less mechanical noise in the stack — meaningful when calling shots at speed. The National Match barrel is fitted and throated to tighter dimensional standards than a standard production barrel, contributing to consistent bullet release and better potential group size.
A dual recoil spring arrangement spreads the slide’s deceleration force across a longer stroke, which takes the sharp spike off the felt impulse and also reduces stress on the frame at the barrel-link junction over high round counts. The upswept beavertail grip safety allows a higher hand position on the frame, keeping the bore axis closer to the shooter’s wrist and reducing muzzle rise between shots. The undercut trigger guard supports the same grip geometry by giving the support hand’s middle finger a straight, flush purchase under the frame.
Novak adjustable fiber optic sights give a clear, fast-acquisition sight picture in variable light without requiring a separate optic. The checkered blue G10 grips resist moisture and maintain texture under sustained fire. Ambidextrous thumb and grip safeties make the pistol fully functional from either hand without modification.
