The SAM5 is Arsenal’s answer to a question serious AK builders have been asking for decades: what happens when you build a 5.56 rifle from the ground up on a genuinely forged-and-milled receiver rather than machined bar stock? The receiver blank is hot-die hammer forged at Arsenal’s Bulgarian factory, a process that aligns the steel’s grain structure and eliminates the internal voids that cooling can introduce when casting or machining from bar. The blank then spends over five and a half hours under CNC milling before it ever sees an assembly line. The result is a receiver that carries its strength from the metallurgy, not just from wall thickness.

The barrel is cold hammer-forged on Steyr-derived equipment and hard-chrome lined through both the bore and chamber. Chrome lining resists corrosion from moisture and corrosive-primed ammunition, and it sustains its surface hardness across a service life that a nitride or phosphate barrel typically cannot match at high round counts. The 1:7-inch twist rate stabilizes heavier 5.56 projectiles — 62-grain M855 and 77-grain OTM loads seat into that twist comfortably — while remaining accurate with standard 55-grain ammunition. The left-hand 14x1mm muzzle threads accept the included AK-351 muzzle brake and are compatible with a range of metric-pattern AK muzzle devices.

The fire control group is the Fime Enhanced unit, which replaces the standard AK fire control parts with components tuned for a cleaner break. The intermediate-length trapdoor buttstock gives a 13.4-inch length of pull, splitting the difference between a standard AK stock and a carbine-length setup. A scope rail is mounted to the left side of the receiver in the standard AK side-rail pattern, leaving iron sight use unaffected. Arsenal offers the SAM5-67 in Matte Black, Plum, OD Green, Desert Sand, and Covert Gray furniture.
