Ballistic Advantage’s BA Hanson profile barrel is built for AR-308 builders who want a practical, all-around .308 Winchester rifle that doesn’t carry unnecessary weight. The Hanson profile achieves that by removing steel from areas that don’t contribute to rigidity under heat, producing a barrel that balances well under a mid-length handguard without the bulk of a government or bull profile.

The mid-length gas system is the right choice at this barrel length because it spreads the dwell time across a longer distance than a carbine setup would. That translates to a slower, more gradual pressure curve arriving at the bolt carrier, which softens the felt impulse and reduces the hammering effect on the bolt group over sustained shooting. It also tends to produce a more forgiving extraction cycle, giving the case a fraction more time to contract before it’s pulled from the chamber.

Ballistic Advantage machines this barrel from 416R stainless steel and leaves it with a Bead Blast finish — a matte, non-reflective surface that suits field use without the added processing of a QPQ or Cerakote coat. The 1:10 twist rate stabilizes the widest practical range of .308 projectiles, from common 150-grain hunting loads through heavier 175-grain match bullets, without over-spinning lighter varmint weights. The gas block seat is cut for .750-inch low-profile blocks, and the barrel ships with a pinned lo-pro gas block already installed. Note that the Hanson profile’s contour under the gas block is not compatible with drop-in piston conversion kits. Every barrel in the Premium Series undergoes both hydraulic pressure and magnetic particle inspection before it leaves the shop.
