Description
Built for precision work at distance, this Ballistic Advantage Premium Series barrel is designed for the shooter assembling a dedicated long-range AR-15 around the 6mm ARC cartridge. The DMR profile is heavier beneath the handguard and tapers gradually toward the muzzle, which slows heat buildup during sustained strings of fire and helps the barrel return to zero more consistently as it cools — a meaningful advantage over lighter contours when round counts climb.
The rifle-length gas system extends dwell time relative to shorter gas arrangements, which reduces bolt carrier velocity at the moment of unlocking. The practical result is a measurably softer impulse and less wear on the bolt and carrier over time. At 20 inches, the barrel also allows the 6mm ARC cartridge to approach its full velocity potential, which matters when engaging targets where the cartridge’s long-range ballistic efficiency is the reason for the chambering in the first place.
The 1:7 twist rate is on the faster end of what this platform commonly sees, and it stabilizes the heavier, high-BC projectiles that make 6mm ARC a serious option at extended range — bullets in the 103- to 108-grain range are well-suited here. The barrel is machined from 416R stainless steel with a bead blasted finish, and the chamber extension uses Ballistic Advantage’s Nickel Boron coated M4 feed ramp — a detail that aids reliable feeding across a range of bullet profiles. The muzzle is cut 5/8×24, which accommodates the common muzzle devices and suppressors designed for this bore diameter.
