Description
The Premier MgLite is Bergara’s answer to a specific problem: building a bolt-action rifle capable of serious long-range precision that a hunter will actually carry deep into the backcountry without dreading the return trip. The XLR Element 4.0 chassis is machined from magnesium — not aluminum — which is how the complete chassis system, paired with a carbon fiber folding buttstock and carbon fiber grip, comes in under two pounds. That weight saving matters most on multi-day pack hunts where every ounce compounds over miles.
The barrel is Bergara’s CURE Carbon construction, which bonds carbon fiber over a stainless steel core using a proprietary weave that embeds stainless strands to conduct heat away from the carbon. The practical result is a barrel that is substantially lighter than an all-steel profile without the harmonic instability that plagued earlier carbon-wrapped designs, which tended to shift point of impact as they heated. At a 1-in-8 inch twist rate, this rifle is optimized for heavier, high-BC projectiles in .300 PRC — the cartridge was purpose-built for long, heavy-for-caliber bullets, and a fast twist keeps them stable at the extended ranges the caliber is designed to reach.
The Premier action uses a two-lug bolt with a separately floating bolt head, which keeps the lugs in full contact with the action’s abutment surfaces even under minor receiver flex — relevant when a lightweight chassis prioritizes mass reduction over rigidity. A cone-shaped bolt nose and spring-loaded sliding plate extractor contribute to reliable feeding from the included 5-round AICS detachable magazine. The TriggerTech trigger uses Frictionless Release Technology to eliminate take-up and creep, giving a clean break without the unpredictable staging that can throw a shot at distance. The chassis also integrates a bubble level and a machined Arca-Swiss dovetail in the forend for direct mounting to compatible tripod heads without additional hardware.
