Description
The Premier MgLite is Bergara’s answer to a specific and demanding problem: building a precision bolt-action rifle light enough to carry deep into the backcountry without giving up the mechanical consistency that serious long-range hunting requires. It is aimed at hunters and precision shooters who cover hard miles on foot and need a rifle that will perform when they finally settle into a shooting position.
The barrel is Bergara’s CURE Carbon construction, which is not simply a steel barrel wrapped in carbon fiber. Bergara bonds embedded stainless steel strands into the carbon weave specifically to manage heat transfer — carbon fiber alone is a poor conductor of heat, which causes inconsistency as barrel temperature climbs. The stainless strands draw heat away from the bore, allowing the barrel to behave more predictably across a string of shots than a conventional carbon-wrapped tube would. The 1-in-10-inch twist rate suits the .308 Win / 7.62 NATO chambering well across the range of commonly available hunting and match projectiles, from lighter 150-grain loads up through heavier 175-grain and 185-grain bullets that long-range shooters often prefer.
The chassis is the XLR Element 4.0 built from magnesium alloy, which is appreciably lighter than aluminum chassis systems while retaining structural rigidity. It ships with a carbon fiber folding buttstock and carbon fiber grip. The folding stock is a practical feature for pack-in situations where overall length matters in a scabbard or pack. A machined-in RRS 1.5-inch dovetail runs along the forend, providing a tool-free Arca-Swiss attachment point for a tripod or shooting rest head. The action accepts a standard Remington 700 pattern scope base, which keeps optic options broad. The TriggerTech trigger uses Frictionless Release Technology to eliminate the friction-based creep common to standard sear designs, producing a cleaner break without compromising the trigger’s ability to handle rough field conditions.
