Description

The Bushnell R3 4-12×40 is a second focal plane centerfire hunting scope aimed at deer hunters, varmint shooters, and anyone who spends time in mixed terrain where shot distances vary unpredictably. Because the reticle sits in the second focal plane, its subtensions are calibrated at a fixed magnification, which keeps the aiming picture clean and uncluttered at lower power without the reticle shrinking to a fine point at higher settings.

The DOA Quick Ballistic reticle gives the shooter marked holdover points out to 600 yards along with wind-hold references out to 500 yards, so distance corrections happen by moving the aiming point rather than touching the turrets between shots. That makes it particularly practical in field conditions where time and hand position matter. Capped windage and elevation turrets protect a dialed-in zero from accidental displacement in a pack or rifle case.

Bushnell’s EXO Barrier coating bonds directly to the exterior lens surfaces rather than sitting as a separate layer on top, actively shedding water, oil, dust, and debris so the glass stays usable in rain or heavy dew without wiping. The tube is nitrogen-purged and rated IPX7 waterproof, which covers submersion and keeps internal fogging from temperature swings from being a field problem. The one-piece tube is machined from aircraft-grade aluminum and accepts standard 1-inch rings, fitting the broadest range of mounting hardware without adapters. An adjustable objective lets the shooter dial out parallax across varying distances, keeping the target image and the reticle on the same focal plane for precise holds at ranges where parallax error would otherwise matter.
