The AR15A4 is Colt’s civilian counterpart to the M16A4 — a full-length rifle built for shooters who want the handling and sight radius of a 20-inch platform rather than a carbine. It suits target shooters, competitors, and anyone who finds that the longer gun rewards them at distance or on the range. If you spent time behind a military M16A4, this will feel immediately familiar in the hand.

The 20-inch barrel is where the AR15A4 earns its keep. Longer barrel dwell time lets propellant gases do more work before the bullet exits, which generally means cleaner cycling and more complete powder burn compared to shorter gas systems — though it also means a longer, heavier package that takes some getting used to if you’ve been running carbines. The trade is deliberate: what you give up in maneuverability you recover in velocity and a longer sight radius that makes iron-sight shooting more precise.

The 1-in-7 twist rate is matched to stabilize heavier projectiles — think 62-grain M855 and heavier — which gives you flexibility when selecting ammunition for accuracy work. Lighter 55-grain loads will still run reliably; the twist simply opens the door for heavier bullets that shorter-twist barrels can’t stabilize as well.

The adjustable rear sight lets you dial elevation and windage at the rear, working in conjunction with the front post, without adding optics weight or complexity. The receiver accepts standard AR-pattern upper components, and the standard bolt carrier group means the rifle is fully compatible with the wide market of aftermarket parts. It ships with one 30-round Magpul magazine.
