Description
The LE6920-OEM1 is Colt’s stripped-down answer for shooters who want a verified military-pattern M4 carbine without paying for furniture they plan to replace anyway. It ships with a bare-bones configuration intentionally, which makes it a practical starting point for anyone building toward a specific role — home defense, patrol, or range work — rather than a dressed rifle optimized for someone else’s preferences.
The direct-impingement gas system routes propellant gas back through the bolt carrier group rather than through a piston, which keeps the reciprocating mass lighter and puts the recoil impulse straighter back into the shooter’s shoulder. The trade-off is that fouling deposits accumulate closer to the chamber over sustained fire, so cleaning cadence matters more than it would on a piston-driven platform. For typical use, that is a non-issue.
The 1-in-7 right-hand twist stabilizes heavier projectiles — 62-grain M855 and 77-grain match loads both seat well at that rate. Shooters who run exclusively light 55-grain ball will find it functions reliably, though the twist is optimized for longer, heavier bullets rather than that end of the weight range. The chrome-lined bore with six grooves resists corrosion and extends service life under hard use, which is why the military specification calls for it.
The A2 front sight post is adjustable for elevation and provides a durable, zero-dependent reference that works with or without a rear iron. It also clears most optic mounting arrangements, so adding a red dot or low-power variable scope does not require removing it. Colt’s mil-spec lower components and safety lever are drop-in compatible with the broad ecosystem of aftermarket parts built to that standard.
